Apple and cranberry crumble

Chia was an important food plant for the Aztecs, but it was almost forgotten by their descendants.

That would have been a shame, because chia seeds are exceptionally rich in antioxidants, protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They also have the highest omega-3 content of any food – a true superfood.

Ingredients

2 apples
40 g butter
50 g rolled oats
50 g cane sugar
20 g dried cranberries
20 g honey
5 g chia seeds
1 tbsp vegetable oil
25 g flour

Instructions

Step 1 of 6:

Preheat the oven to 180 °C fan or 200 °C top/bottom heat. Peel the apples, quarter them, remove the cores, and cut them into cubes about 1 cm in size. Roughly chop the cranberries.

Step 2 of 6:

Heat 1 tbsp. oil in a Frying Pan and fry the apple cubes and cranberries together with honey over low to medium heat for 5 minutes.

Step 3 of 6:

Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine cane sugar, rolled oats, chia seeds, and 25 g flour. Then add the butter and mix thoroughly with a fork.

Step 4 of 6:

Set aside 2 tbsp. of the fried fruit pieces for decoration, divide the remaining fruit between 2 small baking dishes, and sprinkle the oat crumble topping over them. Bake in the preheated oven on the middle shelf for about 15 minutes until golden brown.

Step 5 of 6:

At the end of the baking time, remove the crumble from the oven and leave to cool for 5 to 10 minutes.

Step 6 of 6:

Decorate the crumble with the remaining fruit pieces.
